He Knows Me

Psalm 139: 1-6 (NIV)

1 You have searched me, LORD,
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, LORD, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

Message:

Have you ever had the feeling that no one understands you or even tries to? Well, I know I did, once or twice in the past. So as I read Psalm 139 again this morning, I am reminded that even if everyone around me doesn’t and won’t understand me, there is a higher being that certainly does and will! Isn’t that cool? The God, our Creator, knows everything about us! He doesn’t just know it because He is all-knowing; He knows it because He cares about us! He knows how we feel and think (He can read our hearts and minds!), He knows what we do and say (even before we do and say it!), and He knows wherever we go. God knows us completely and intimately; He loves us that much! Read more »

Nehemiah Fasted, So Should We

prayer-fasting

Isaiah 58:8-9
Then my favor will shine on you like the morning sun, and your wounds will be quickly healed. I will always be with you to save you; my presence will protect you on every side. When you pray, I will answer you. When you call to me, I will respond.

Message:
Fasting is a spiritual discipline that helps us center our attention on the Lord and discover His will so we may act according to it. People fast in different ways: some abstain from food while others refrain from various activities. The period of time can vary as well. But the focus in each case is to be the same—to seek God and know His will.

When we begin to deny ourselves, several things happen. First, the Holy Spirit will enable us to set aside earthly matters. Relationships, work, and pleasure will take a lesser place in our mind as we concentrate on Him and His purposes. Second, our attention will shift from ourselves to the Lord. Thinking will become clearer, and our ability to understand God’s plans will sharpen because we are not distracted by other things. Read more »

Worry Not

00daisies

Message:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” –  Philippians 4:6-7

Application:
Anxious, \’ank-shəs\ adj 1: uneasy in mind: WORRIED.

If there is a word that is common to everyone’s vocabulary, it is WORRY. Worrying typically and habitually lingers from morning ‘til night time. We worry about time, clothes to wear, exam, friends, future, past, present, food, hair, bills, weight, family, etc. We even worry when we don’t have anything to worry about! In the end, the burdens pull us down and affect our entirety. Read more »

Blessed!

Blessed!

Psalm 84:6

As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
they make it a place of springs;
the autumn rains also cover it with pools*.

*blessings.

Message:They’ here refers to those who are blessed because their strength is in the Lord. They go from strength to strength as in a pilgrimage in this lifetime. Blessed people are truly blessed. All they do, all they are, all they put their hope on (or desire to happen) is blessed. The paths they tread are blessed. They pass on blessing to blessing and they never run out. The blessed ones leave springs for travelers trailing behind to enjoy as they, too have experienced the resting place set before them by those who went ahead. Their main goal is to finally rest in the presence of the Great Blesser from whom all good things glow. Better is one day in His courts than a thousand elsewhere, is their hearts’ song. Read more »

Campus Jam and Bread

SBCC -- Oregon and Manila Team

What happens when you pack in kids of different ages, shapes and sizes, singing and dancing along to cool music and hearing about the gospel of the Lord? You get a glimpse of a rockin’ school concert (Campus Jam) and a feeding of God’s daily word (Bread!).

The Life City Campus (TLCC) squeezed in a bunch of students from nearby schools to treat them to an afternoon of music and fun. The whole worship tent was filled to the brim with kids screaming along to familiar songs performed by the Southwest BC Band (Matt, Pat, Sam, Brent and Ashley) and crossfilterd (Allison, Jovan, Ivan, TJ, and guest guitarist Kokoy). Both bands played Top 40 songs mixed with worship music. Read more »
